In our municipality health constitutes one of the conquests of the Revolution that is defended in a sustained manner, supported by more than 2500 health specialists, among which we can count with numbers that promise to continue to gradually raise the quality of this branch. This army of white coats includes approximately 550 physicians, 500 nurses, 370 health technologists, 100 stomatologists, 10 psychologists and more than 220 workers, among others.

The Municipal Health Directorate directs, executes and controls the application of the State and Government policy regarding Public Health and the development of medical sciences in the territory. It fulfills the indications issued in this sense by the Ministry of Public Health, the direction of the party and the Government in the Municipality.

There are 94 units for medical and social assistance, with 1 Hospital, 2 Polyclinics, 77 Family Medical Offices, 11 Pharmacies, 1 Optician's, 1 Maternity Home, 1 Nursing Home, a Municipal Hygiene and Epidemiology Center and a Municipal Health Directorate. It also has a branch of Medical Sciences that in the last year incorporated approximately a thousand graduates in various specialties. In addition, to support the international work, it has the presence of more than 170 collaborators in 21 countries.
